AC/DC and Shihad - Western Springs, 4th February 2010

It has to be said, as many of you know I'm an old westie, and old westies were brought up listening to the Wombles and AC/DC.
So in the year of my middle aged-ness, it became apparent I had to live out a few of my '21 year old Westie' dreams and attend concerts from my somewhat bogan juvenile delinquency. In fact in the last two years I've seen 10 acts dating back from those days, including Alice Cooper - twice, Whitesnake, Kiss, Ozzy Osborne, Shihad (long story) and most impressively, Def Leppard.

Although it was always going to take some effort to make my top 3 of all time, AC/DC managed it superbly. Supported by Shihad - an act I have managed to miss at every festival I attended in the 90's, who rolled out a set of mostly old favourites, and Jon Toogood who I've always said knows how to rark up large crowds pulled it off once more. Home Again and Run were the last two songs, IMO the best two as well.

Now onto the Rock Gods themselves. What can I say but a stunning performance, every bit as good as I could have imagined after watching the DVDs and the song choices - perfect. A great blend of all their best known songs mixed in with a few newbies such as Runaway Train - OK the new stuff isn't as classic as the old stuff...but when you mix that in with Dirty Deeds, TNT, High Voltage, Back In Black, and the tit-pulling-out songs The Jack - I kid you not, tops came off for that one.

And to thank the audience - "Highway to Hell" and "For Those About to Rock" - well, I felt saluted what with a very conclusive 21 gun salute with pyro and fireworks display.

It was a last minute decision to go - and I tell you - it was one of the best ones I made in my life.

Go forth and rock.... and we will salute you....

A purple glowing shadow-wolf. It's as elusive as smoke, and can walk through things. That's cool and all, but you can't pick up its poop. Pet: A forest wolf. Just your average moon-howling, forest padding, chicken eating feral woofer.
Pet: A green glowing ferocious wolf spirit. The way it walks through the door when it wants 'walkies' is disconcerting. Pet: A large black wolf. He's cool, and he knows it. Pet: A cackling, mangy hyena. You've got to laugh, don't you? Pet: A large red hunting velociraptor. It's basically an iguana that learned to stand upright and eat people.

(sigh) I would have loved to have gone to this. I've been a fan of AC/DC since... well, forever. Alas, it was not to be.
Glad it was worth the effort. Smile
